Toyota Starts Exporting Indonesia-made Sedans to Middle East
Exports to ASEAN Destinations Began in December 2013
Jakarta, Indonesia, March 26, 2014―Toyota Motor Corporation’s (TMC’s) vehicle production subsidiary in Indonesia, PT. Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN), today officially marked the beginning of exports of Indonesia-produced Toyota sedans at a ceremony here attended by Indonesia Minister of Industry M.S. Hidayat, Indonesia Minister of Trade, Muhammad Luthfi, and Toyota executives.
Export of the “Vios” started in December last year to Singapore and Brunei Darussalam, with shipments starting this month to Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Lebanon, and Yemen. Initial plans call for exports totalling 1,000 units a month, to be increased to 3,000 units in the near future.
TMMIN President Director Masahiro Nonami was all praise for the workers. “This achievement speaks highly of the more than 7,600 amazing team members at Toyota in Indonesia whose hard work and determination have enabled us to reach this historic day. It’s a proud day for us all,” he said.
In line with Toyota’s focus to grow in emerging markets and the robust growth in Indonesia's automobile industry, annual production capacity in Indonesia increased to 250,000 vehicles this year from 110,000 vehicles in 2012. In addition to its multipurpose vehicle offerings the “Innova” and “Fortuner”, TMMIN now also produces the “Etios Valco”, the “Vios” and the “Limo”1.
“Toyota considers Indonesia as a key global manufacturing and supply base. I am very proud that Toyota Indonesia is to begin exporting sedans to Middle East countries,” said TMC Managing Officer Hiroyuki Fukui.
Last year, over 118,000 Toyota brand CBU vehicles were exported from Indonesia―70 percent of all vehicle exports―to more than 70 countries in Asia, Africa, Latin America, and the Middle East.
