Toyota Supports Bangladesh, Bhutan, India and Nepal Friendship Motor Rally

 

Bhubaneswar, India, November 14, 2015―Today the flag dropped on the first Bangladesh, Bhutan, India and Nepal Friendship Motor Rally, a 4,500 km driving expedition organized to help champion regional integration and promote road safety. Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) is extending its support by providing Fortuner and Innova vehicles for the rally, which is supported by India's Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.

The rally starts from Bhubaneswar, passing through Ranchi, Patna, Siliguri, Gangtok (India) Phuentsholing, Thimphu, Mongar, Samdrup Jongkar (Bhutan), Guwahati, Sikkim (India), Silchar, Agartala, Chittagong and Dhaka (Bangladesh), and finishes at the Victoria Memorial, Kolkata (India).

Present at today's launch event were Odisha High Court Chief Justice D.H. Waghela, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways Secretary Vijay Chhibber, Toyota Motor Kirloskar Vice Chairman Shekar Viswanathan, and diplomatic representatives from the four participating countries.

Speaking at the event, Vice Chairman Viswanathan said, "We at Toyota Kirloskar Motor are privileged to be part of this rally that aims at enhancing people-to-people interactions from the four participating countries. This rally will open transport corridors that can turn into economic corridors, which we believe will drive change in a positive direction. Supporting this initiative is special for us as it also disseminates awareness on importance of road safety, which is of paramount importance to us."

Also commenting on the event, Secretary Chhibber said "the BBIN friendship rally will further strengthen friendship, mutual trust and cooperation between participating countries. Growing access will also help in establishing a stronger people to people bond. We hope to build more such cultural engagements in the future. We are happy to receive participation from TKM and their support in promoting the importance of road safety".

In addition to providing vehicles for the rally, on November 25 TKM will be conducting a safety seminar in Guwahati in the presence of senior officials from the central and state governments, local administration and media, with the goal of raising awareness of the importance of road safety. TKM management and senior officials will also be present to offer support on different occasions during the rally.

The BBIN Friendship Motor Rally was created following the ratification of a four-country agreement to encourage cross-border vehicle movement and deepen regional integration.
