Toyota Pledges More Financial Aid to University Students in China
Total of 72 Million Yuan Donated and Pledged

Beijing, China, March 28, 2014―Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) and the China Soong Ching Ling Foundation held a ceremony today at the Chaoyang Culture Center to sign an agreement extending the Toyota Study Assistance Fund for three more years. Through the agreement, Toyota has pledged 27 million more yuan to the fund over the next three years, enough to support the collegiate education of 780 more Chinese students.

During the ceremony, TMC Senior Managing Officer Hiroji Onishi reaffirmed Toyota’s commitment to the fund by stating: “At Toyota, we believe that the source of true craftsmanship and giving back to the community stems from the growth and maturation of individuals. Through this program, it is our fervent hope that the students helped by this fund will grow and be thoroughly prepared to become the future leaders of society and also act as the bridges between Japan and China.” Representatives and students of the universities involved in the Study Assistance Fund, representatives of the foundation and Toyota members also attended the ceremony.

As part of the scholarship program renewal, the scholarship amount will be increased from 3,000 yuan to 4,000 yuan per student per year, with leadership training now offered to all scholarship recipients. In addition, a new online community will be developed to support greater interaction between students, alumni, foundations and Toyota, so that participants will have an opportunity to expand their network of personal connections.
In a recorded video, recipients expressed their thanks, enthusiasm and lofty aspirations for the future. Yang Xian, a scholarship recipient from Southwest Jiaotong University, said: I'd like to thank Toyota and the China Soong Ching Ling Foundation for helping financially strapped students. My current dream is to work with my friends and colleagues from school to help develop the education systems of financially poor regions around the world.”

Through the jointly established Toyota Study Assistance Fund, Toyota and the China Soong Ching Ling Foundation have been providing scholarships, leadership training, and opportunities to visit Japan to university students in mid-west China* since 2006.
