Covent Garden Soloists Kick Off Toyota Asian Charity Concert Series

The 25th Anniversary Asian Tour of the "Toyota Classics" charity concert series launched tonight in Singapore.

The first event, held at the Marina Bay Sands resort, raised S$100,000 for the Community Chest in support of The Singapore Association for the deaf.

The fusion of symphony, percussion, and interpretation of songs in sign language ensured that hearing-impaired attendees were also able to enjoy the event.

The concert featured an adventurous and original arrangement blending the best of classical music and popular cinematic scores, delivered by the world-renowned Covent Garden Soloists Orchestra, as well as a collaboration with local enterprise ExtraOrdinary Horizons.

The funds raised will go towards providing financial, socio-economic and educational services, as well as sign language teaching and interpretation courses, for the hearing impaired and their families. Funds raised will also be matched dollar-for-dollar by the Singapore government under the Care & Share Movement.

"We are thankful for the support of the audience in making the donation possible today, and look forward to many more successful events as the tour travels to Brunei, Cambodia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam," said Hisayuki Inoue, President of Toyota Motor Asia Pacific.

Toyota Classics concerts are scheduled until November 18, and will take place in Cambodia, the Philippines, Brunei, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam. Proceeds from the concerts will go towards local charities, including Plan International, a child rights organization in the Philippines, Kuntha Bopha Children’s Hospital in Cambodia, and the National Kidney Foundation of Malaysia.
