Toyota Charity Concerts Bring the Heart of Europe to the Asia Pacific
In October, the award-winning Budapest Operetta and Musical Theatre will team up with Toyota for a series of charity concerts throughout the Asia Pacific. This year’s concert tour series is the latest installment in the Toyota Classics arts and culture program, which has raised almost USD 7 million over the course of its 25-year history.
The 26th concert tour will visit Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines and Vietnam. As usual, all proceeds from ticket sales will go to local charities.
In keeping with the group’s noted versatility and extensive repertoire, the concerts will feature a mix of pieces from both musicals and operettas. The former will include crowd favorites from ‘West Side Story’ and ‘The Phantom of the Opera’. The operetta pieces will be more European in style, including works by Johann Strauss II, Franz Lehár, and Emmerich Kálmán. Some concerts will also feature performances by local musicians.
Each year, the Budapest Operetta and Musical Theatre performs more than five hundred shows seen by hundreds of thousands of people. Its members are no strangers to co-productions with partner organizations all around the world, and the company is regularly on tour, performing in venues all over Europe and Asia.
